STUDIO 2B is a way for every girl 11-17 years old to belong to Girl Scouts. After much research and surveying of girls, we know girls want a program that is more suited to their needs. They want a program that offers them “advisors” rather than “leaders,” and they want those advisors to be closer to their own ages. They want a program where they get to direct the activity. In STUDIO 2B, girls have choices – and adults help make those choices happen. Girls can choose to take a trip or pick an activity from a STUDIO 2B Focus Book, such as On the Go or On Track. They can talk about an article they read about in a STUDIO 2B Collection. Maybe the article they read makes them think about their future, whether it’s a community action project or their college major. STUDIO 2B is about who girls are, who they are becoming, how they belong, what they believe, and how they are building the world around them.
STUDIO 2B is not intended to replace the “traditional” teen options of Girl Scouting. Instead, it is meant to provide an expanded menu of options to teen-age girls, so that they can make Girl Scouting fit their needs and interests. The terms “Cadette” and “Senior” are still acceptable to use. The recognitions, uniform pieces, and the Silver and Gold Awards will remain a part of Girl Scouting, while new aspects of STUDIO 2B materials will continue to be incorporated. In addition, new resources come out regularly for STUDIO 2B members and advisors. Stop in the GSGEC Gift Shops to look at the book series, bracelets, and charms that are STUDIO 2B earned recognitions.
