Thank You Girl Scout Supporters!

Thanks to the support of over 840 organizations, businesses, and individuals, the Girl Scouts of Glowing Embers Council (GSGEC) was able to meet the Kresge Foundation challenge. GSGEC was challenged to raise an additional two million dollars toward their capital campaign within fifteen months. Around the end of September, GSGEC succeeded in reaching that challenge goal and just received $700,000 from the Kresge Foundation.
The Kresge Foundation awarded the Girl Scouts of Glowing Embers Council this amazing grant to be used toward construction of the world-class Program and Training Center on the corner of Crosstown Parkway and Maple Street. The Kresge Foundation’s goal in issuing the challenge was to insure the support of the community, the ultimate beneficiaries of this project.
"The Kresge Foundation’s ability to inspire an entire community to rally around a project is truly awe-inspiring. On behalf of the 6,000 girls and 1,200 adult volunteers we currently serve and the additional tens of thousands we will be able to serve in the future, we are eternally grateful for the support of the Kresge Foundation and the entire community," said Jan Barker, CEO.
Now that the Girl Scouts have been able to meet their 2005-2006 capital campaign goals, they are excited to move into the next year, striving toward new accomplishments. GSGEC is still seeking donations for their endowment fund and for the ongoing renovations at Camp Merrie Woode. For further information, please call 269.343.1516.
