Program and Training Center
Our current facility, the Girl Scout Service Center on Maple Street in Kalamazoo, was acquired through donations in the early 1970s. It has served as headquarters for the Council, housing offices and a small meeting facility for volunteers and occasionally, troops. This facility is woefully inadequate to current program needs and Council goals and does not even begin to address future programming needs and goals.
The new Program and Training Center will allow girls and leaders to meet, provide space for Girl Scout trainings and
orientations, and have ample space for volunteers to meet informally to plan meetings and events. Most importantly, it will be a place for girls from different neighborhoods and backgrounds to meet each other in a safe, all-girl environment. Improvements and Updates
to Camp Merrie Woode
While camp facilities have been well maintained, major improvements have not been made to the camp since the late 1960's and facilities are badly outdated. The planned improvements will provide critical accessibility for all girls and will provide emergency shelters for bad weather.
Improvements will also allow comfortable outdoor experiences for girls with varied levels of camping skills. Click here to see improvements as well as planned updates.

Endowment Fund
The continued expansion of the Girl Scouts of Glowing Embers Council membership requires expanded operating budgets, maintenance of facilities, and sufficient staff to support the delivery of quality programs. Expanding the current endowment program will enable the Council to meet these challenges and is part of the Council’s business plan to maintain self-sufficiency, and is an important part of being good stewards of the resources we are building. |
