Position Title: Troop Leader/Advisor
Position Summary: To provide an atmosphere for growth in which girls will learn to develop their abilities as individuals and group participants through the Girl Scout program.
Appointed by: Service Area Manager or Member Services Executive
Position Tasks/Responsibilities:
- Be a role model for the girls in my Troop/Group.
- Honor the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
- Adhere to all Girl Scouts of Glowing Embers Council Policies
- Attend all leader meetings or send a substitute
- Complete New Volunteer Orientation, Basic Leader Training, and appropriate Age-Level courses.
- Maintain financial and Troop/Group dues records
- Establish a Troop/Group bank account in the name of Girl Scouts of Glowing Embers Council and Troop/Group #, in accordance with Girl Scouts of Glowing Embers Council policies.
- Maintain accurate Troop/Group records and turn in the Annual Troop/Group Report along with current statement of account to the Member Services Executive by June 15th.
- Register my Troop/Group prior to the first Troop/Group meeting.
- Secure Troop/Group Sponsorship whenever possible
- Hold regularly scheduled meetings with my Troop/Group
- Interpret the Girl Scout Program and Troop/Group to parents or guardians
- Work with girls, co-leaders, as well as parents, in planning Troop/Group activities
- Provide recognition for girl’s achievements (pins, badges, try-its, etc.)
- Follow Safety-Wise standards in all Troop/Group meetings, activities, trips, etc.
- Support GSGEC efforts to increase revenue through Family Partnership, Capital Campaigns, Product Sales and special events that may be held from time to time.
- Meet with a member of the Service Team, or Member Service Executive, for a Year-End Wrap-up
Position Competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities required):
- Believes in the aims and purposes of the Girl Scout organization and subscribes to the principles expressed in the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
- Meets requirements for membership in Girl Scouts of U.S.A. and be a registered member.
- Understand and accept GSUSA Policies and Standards, Girl Scouts of Glowing Embers Policies and Standards.
- Have the ability to delegate responsibly, motivate, and work harmoniously with others without regard to race, creed, nationality, socio-economic factors or disabilities.
- Has basic knowledge of, or is willing to learn, Girl Scout programs and is willing and able to take necessary trainings.
- Strong organizational and planning skills, and the ability to delegate responsibility.
- Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.
- Patience, enthusiasm, resourcefulness, flexibility and a sense of humor are assets.
Time Commitment Required: One Year, may be re-appointed
Meetings Required:
- Monthly service area meetings
