Volunteer Position Description/Agreement

Position Title: Troop Leader/Advisor

Position Summary:  To provide an atmosphere for growth in which girls will learn to develop their abilities as individuals and group participants through the Girl Scout program.

Appointed by:  Service Area Manager or Member Services Executive

Position Tasks/Responsibilities:

  1. Be a role model for the girls in my Troop/Group.
  2. Honor the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
  3. Adhere to all Girl Scouts of Glowing Embers Council Policies
  4. Attend all leader meetings or send a substitute
  5. Complete New Volunteer Orientation, Basic Leader Training, and appropriate Age-Level courses.
  6. Maintain financial and Troop/Group dues records
  7. Establish a Troop/Group bank account in the name of Girl Scouts of Glowing Embers Council and Troop/Group #, in accordance with Girl Scouts of Glowing Embers Council policies.
  8. Maintain accurate Troop/Group records and turn in the Annual Troop/Group Report along with current statement of account to the Member Services Executive by June 15th.
  9. Register my Troop/Group prior to the first Troop/Group meeting.
  10. Secure Troop/Group Sponsorship whenever possible
  11. Hold regularly scheduled meetings with my Troop/Group
  12. Interpret the Girl Scout Program and Troop/Group  to parents or guardians
  13. Work with girls, co-leaders, as well as parents, in planning Troop/Group activities
  14. Provide recognition for girl’s achievements (pins, badges, try-its, etc.)
  15. Follow Safety-Wise standards in all Troop/Group meetings, activities, trips, etc.
  16. Support GSGEC efforts to increase revenue through Family Partnership, Capital Campaigns, Product Sales and special events that may be held from time to time.
  17. Meet with a member of the Service Team, or Member Service Executive, for a Year-End Wrap-up

Position Competencies (knowledge, skills, abilities required):

  1. Believes in the aims and purposes of the Girl Scout organization and subscribes to the principles expressed in the Girl Scout Promise and Law.
  2. Meets requirements for membership in Girl Scouts of U.S.A. and be a registered member.
  3. Understand and accept GSUSA Policies and Standards, Girl Scouts of Glowing Embers Policies and Standards.
  4. Have the ability to delegate responsibly, motivate, and work harmoniously with others without regard to race, creed, nationality, socio-economic factors or disabilities.
  5. Has basic knowledge of, or is willing to learn, Girl Scout programs and is willing and able to take necessary trainings.
  6. Strong organizational and planning skills, and the ability to delegate responsibility.
  7. Possesses effective oral and written communication skills.
  8. Patience, enthusiasm, resourcefulness, flexibility and a sense of humor are assets.

Time Commitment Required: One Year, may be re-appointed

Meetings Required:

  • Monthly service area meetings

Training Needed:

  • New Volunteer Orientation; Basic Leader Training; Appropriate Age-Level Training
